Jackson State University, Mississippi’s premier urban institution, proudly unveiled the Walter Payton Recreation & Wellness Center in 2007. Honoring a legendary alumnus, this highly visible addition to campus received the Outstanding Sports Facilities Award from the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association. Spanning 97,000 square feet, the center serves as the primary hub for recreational and social activities, benefiting both students and the broader campus community. It features a multi-use gymnasium, racquetball courts, fitness training areas, and several meeting spaces, as well as dedicated offices for student use. Ultimately, the facility is designed to bolster the university’s health image while playing a pivotal role in student recruitment and retention.
