DESCRIPTION

Project Description: MetroCenter Mall Renovations – City of Jackson

Completed in 2012, the MetroCenter Mall Renovations project transformed a long-vacant anchor store within Jackson’s historic first mall-originally constructed in the 1980s-into a consolidated municipal hub for the City of Jackson, Mississippi.

This strategic renovation effort enabled the city to relocate and unify more than eight city departments-previously dispersed across multiple facilities throughout the metro area-under one roof. The collaborative effort between the City of Jackson, private developers, and Mc3LROY Architecture resulted in a streamlined and accessible government services complex within a repurposed urban space.

Project Highlights:

  • Scope: Full interior renovation of an abandoned retail anchor space
  • Area Renovated: Over 65,000 square feet
  • Construction Cost: $3,000,000
  • Completion Year: 2012
  • Key Outcome: Centralization of multiple city departments to improve public service delivery and operational efficiency 2012

This adaptive reuse project stands as a successful model for revitalizing underutilized commercial properties for civic use, supporting both urban renewal and more effective municipal operations.
