DESCRIPTION
In 2004, Alcorn State University planned a 150,000-square-foot, 250-room campus housing project for its Lorman, MS Campus. Designed to be located at the northernmost sector of the campus quadrangle, the facility was envisioned as a prominent anchor for this area of the university.
The proposed complex incorporated modern student housing principles, offering the university the flexibility to implement distinct residential components or “houses.” The design allowed for adaptable gender assignments within the same facility while ensuring visual and physical separation based on gender and other student classifications.
Situated on a dynamic site with a 40-foot elevation change from the front pedestrian plaza to the rear elevated verandah, the design seamlessly integrated into the landscape. The project was scheduled for completion in winter 2005 but was not built.
